A Momentary Writing About Struggle

We are pushed to success, not given it. That push requires a force....
Just a very quick writing on the concept of struggle, especially given tonight's State of the Union Address.
We get knocked...then we get up again, as the immortal Chumbawumba so eloquently reminds us. It is with this initial tear-down, this reminder of mortality and, in some cases, suffering, that we are moved to potentially greater heights than ever before. Without the backwards to drive us, to make us realize mistake or fault, we don't move forwards, simple as that.
Minor and major struggles abound and from each of them we can gain something. There is always a takeaway, a silver lining worth finding, recognizing, and understanding. So long as we know that this glass-half-full realization is, in fact, real, then we can continue to persevere and find new ways of solving problems and reaching the goals and dreams we so badly want for ourselves.
In the end, struggle can be overwhelming, but only if we allow it to be. Yes I say that from a position of privilege - typing from a nice computer in a warm home with a loving family and safe neighborhood - but I truly believe that progress can always be made despite any odds that stare a person in the face. We just have to be willing to do the dirty work, to churn and burn through anything that presents itself as an obstacle.
The struggle doesn't have to be defining. The success, and the will to achieve it, can be.
